Program Description

<p>This continuing education and professional development program for Instructional Support Personnel (ISP) is designed to develop knowledge in core subject matter areas necessary to increase achievement levels for all students and enhance opportunities for career advancement. Those seeking this certificate will&nbsp; strengthen their interpersonal, communication, and management skills.&nbsp; All coursework completed satisfactorily in this program will count toward an Associate of Science transfer major in Elementary Education in response to the requirements of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).&nbsp; This program of study is also appropriate for practicing ISP who would like to broaden their knowledge while earning college credit.&nbsp; Students must follow the application procedures of ABAC, take appropriate placement exams, and complete any required Learning Support courses prior to acceptance into this certificate program.</p>

• Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental reading, writing, and mathematical skills (assessed in ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102, and MATH 1001/1111).

Assessment

A. These are common assessments used in EDUC 2110, 2120, and 2130. Each of the scoring rubrics for the project assesses students’ ability to develop excellent written, verbal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills within the context of teacher preparation.

End of course exam assessing (1) students’ ability to define, identify and use curriculum that embraces students’ diverse backgrounds; (2) Identify and use students’ diverse backgrounds to influence the practices of teaching, learning, and assessment. Assessment

GACE Exam: The GACE® Paraprofessional (Test Code 177) assessment measures the skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and math possessed by prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. A passing score demonstrates that a paraprofessional is knowledgeable in reading, writing, and math, and that he/she is capable of assisting in classroom instruction.
